Culture War
Tim Crater
June 1991
Acts 16:37-39
Paul invoked his Roman citizenship (Acts 22:24-29; Acts 25:10-12) and called
on his legal rights during his missionary work. Paul used his legal rights to
help him preach Christ to the center of the Empire. There are 4 fronts in the
cultural war on which the army of the church shoud be acting.
- Historical front: history is the root of many wrongs -- historical revision,
retelling of the story a different way. America was founded deeply in
religion but now is being retold as a secular place almost hostile to religious
people. Leif Erikson was a missionary. Columbus named America "San Salvador"
(The Savior). All the early charters had a mandate to spread the Gospel.
There were laws about not breaking the Sabbath, etc. Now over 190 Congressional
calls for a day of prayer and fasting. "There arose a generation that didn't know the
Lord." Spiritual and historical ignorance. Spiritual people are becoming strangers.
- Legal front: Where ever government goes, religion is forced to retreat.
- Social front: Christians are excluded from public life (our symbols, literature,
and public prayer)
- Government: Doesn't stop at exclusion, the government is also intrusive into
Christian schools.
How to respond: training and education on history, and legal rights. VOTE.
