Joyful laughter: Psalm 126:2 - because the captives of Zion were brough back by the Lord

Fake laughter: Proverbs 14:13 - laughter can hide pain in the heart. The end of joy may be grief.

Eccl. 2:2 Laughter is madness

Eccl. 7:3 Sorrow is better than laughter, for when a face is sad a heart may be happy.

Eccl. 7:6 The laughter of a fool is futility

Eccl. 10:19 Prepare a meal for laughter

James 4:9 Let your laughter be turned into mourning, your joy to gloom.

Kinds of laughter:

• Divine - Psalm 59:8 - God laughs at violent men
• Natural - Job 8:21
• Derisive - Nehemiah 2:19
• Fake - Proverbs 14:13
• Ridicule, scornful - 2 Chronicles 30:10
• Confident - Job 5:22 laugh because you know that God will protect you
• Joyful - Psalm 126:2

Causes of laughter:

• Man's folly - Psalm 2:4
• Something unusual - Genesis 18:12-15
• Something "untrue" - Matthew 9:24 The people laughed b/c they didn't believe that Jesus had raised the girl from the dead
• Highly contradictory - Psalm 22:7-8

Luke 6:25 "Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep". Luke 6:21 "Blessed are you who weep now for you shall laugh".
