Natural Language Processing research

• Natural language processing research as part of the Assisted Indexing at Mississippi State (AIMS) system that automatically extracts knowledge from a corpus in a domain-independent manner.
• Coding and development of algorithms to aid in tokenizing, tagging, and semi-parsing free text.
• Creation of hand-tagged, hand corrected domain testbeds.
• Research on use of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in natural language processing.
• Research on alternative methods of training artificial neural networks, including fractal configuration of ANNs and evolutionary training algorithms.

• Developed and modified DTD's and FOSI's using the ArborText ADEPT series SGML software for Sun 4.
  
• Developed a Briefing Chart DTD from an existing DTD, and created two Briefing Chart FOSI's, each with different formats: one for the DoD STARS Program, and one for Paramax Systems Corporation.

• Modified the Paramax developed STARS Technical Report DTD and FOSI to include support for second format for use by the Boeing STARS Prime Contractor, with significant changes in title page, header, and footer content and format, and in font selection. This one FOSI thus is compliant with the format requirements of STARS and the Boeing Documentation Standards Office.
• Assisted with creation of FOSI capable of producing three very different formats from a single tagged SGML file, where format switching is controlled by a single attribute.
• Created a "hotlink" from ArborText SGML Editor/Publisher software to Lotus 123 for Sun.
• Performed extensive beta testing of WordPerfect Intellitag for DIS platform.
• Performed interoperablity testing between IslandDraw and ArborText graphics filters and Interleaf, MicroGraphix Designer, and DrawPerfect CGM graphics files.
• Assisted with testing of an ArborText MIL-M-28001B (Draft) Electronic Review Implementation developed specifically for the Paramax STARS Program.
• Assisted in preparation and presentation of demonstrations for management and customers.
• Developed SGML documents using the ArborText SGML Editor and SGML Publisher.
