Reconnaissance Squadron One (VQ-1) returns to the base after completing a routine
mission. VQ-1 is based in Whidbey Island, Wash., and is on a regularly scheduled
six-month deployment to the Middle East conducting missions in support of Operation

- A Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. recovery team member prepares the U.S.
Navy EP-3E "Aries II"
dorsal fin for
removal. The recovery team is performing
disassembly work on the aircraft at Lingshui Airfield in preparation for its return
to the United States. The Fleet Reconnaissance Squadron One (VQ-1) aircraft was
struck by a Chinese F-8 fighter on March 31 and made an emergency landing on
Hainan Island, where it has remained until disassembly and removal operations
